Silver woundcare program

The aim of this program is to develop a product with the following target profile:

• A similar bacteria kill to established silver-based woundcare products but with significantly lower concentration of silver, and consequently with a significantly diminished effect on local, healthy tissue
• Formulation based on colloidal rather than ionic silver
• Effective bacterial kill at 0.5% of the concentration of established silver woundcare products
• Low silver concentration reduces side effects of inhibition of tissue regeneration
• Simple to manufacture and can also be incorporated in a foam dressing
• Convenient to use and well tolerated

Status of development

• Therapeutic concept proven in-vitro
• Silver release profile developed (slow and prolonged)
• Introduced to foam dressing to enter anti-infective and moist wound healing markets
• Good results demonstrated in comparison with leading silver-based products
