AGT Sciences has developed a cartilage mimetic material, based upon our patented Hydragel® technology. In-vitro testing of this material has shown it to have superior wear characteristics when compared to natural cartilage, due to it being stronger, with a higher modulus of elasticity than natural cartilidge, but with a much lower surface coefficient of friction. The material is being submitted for a CE mark by a collaborating company with a view to implanting in big toe joints, in the first instance, later in the year.
